As a fibrous carbon material, carbon fiber has a carbon content of more than 90%. The material is black, hard, and has the characteristics of high strength and light weight. The specific gravity of carbon fiber is less than 1/4 of that of steel. The tensile strength of carbon fiber resin composites is generally above 35,000 MPa (MPa), which is 7.9 times that of steel. The tensile modulus of elasticity is 230,000-430,000 MPa, which is higher than that of steel.

In the national "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" outline, it is clearly stated that we must vigorously cultivate and develop strategic emerging industries. The new material industry focuses on the development of new functional materials, advanced structural materials, high-performance fibers and their composite materials, and common basic materials.

The "Twelfth Five-Year Development Plan for the New Material Industry" issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in February this year also proposed that the average annual growth rate of China's new material industry during the "Twelfth Five-Year" period is expected to exceed 25%, and 10 innovations will be created. Comprehensive leading enterprises with strong capabilities, core competitiveness, and sales revenue of new materials exceeding 15 billion yuan, cultivate 20 professional backbone enterprises with sales revenue of more than 5 billion yuan New material industrial bases and industrial clusters with an output value of more than 30 billion yuan; to realize the industrialization and large-scale production of key varieties such as carbon fiber, and the ten major projects supported include low-cost carbon fiber and high-end innovation demonstration projects.

The carbon fiber industry research team of the Foresight Industry Research Institute believes that with the continuous expansion of uses, the demand for carbon fiber is showing a trend of rapid growth, and an era of carbon fiber is coming.

The industrial field is the largest market for carbon fiber. In 2010, the total global demand for industrial use accounted for more than 50% of the total demand for PAN-FC. Take a high-end passenger car as an example. The current steel chassis weighs about 300 kilograms. If you switch to carbon fiber reinforced plastics made of carbon fiber and resin, it can be reduced to about 150 kilograms, and the total weight of the car of about 1.5 tons can be reduced by one. become. In recent years, with Europe as the center, the market demand for carbon fiber in ferries, large speedboats and other boats is increasing. Carbon fiber also has a wide range of applications in pressure vessels, mainly in compressed tanks and air respirators, including all tanks produced by winding carbon fiber filaments.

The Carbon Fiber Industry Research Group of the Foresight Industry Research Institute predicts that by 2019, the global industrial demand is expected to increase to 75%, and the total demand for carbon fiber for energy and industrial purposes will increase to 105,060 tons by 2019, with a compound annual growth rate of 15.04% .

The demand in the aerospace field is another bright spot in the carbon fiber market. At present, the upper limit of the use of carbon fiber reinforced composite materials (CFRP) in aircraft structural materials is about 50%-55%; the regional aircraft under development (narrow-body commercial aircraft with less than 200 seats) will use 15%-37% composite materials . In the 10 years from 2011 to 2020, the general aviation sector is expected to add 12,400 aircraft, and the business jet market will add 13,600. Composite materials on new aircraft accounted for about 54%, and business jets accounted for about 68%.

The Carbon Fiber Industry Research Group of the Institute of Foresight Industry estimates that carbon fiber for aerospace will reach 6,410 tons in 2010, at a compound annual growth rate of 10.9%, and is expected to reach 18,100 tons in 2019. (Source: China High-tech Industry Herald)
