NIOBIUM CARBIDE

Niobium carbide is easily to be solid soluted in compounds like titanium carbide, zirconium carbide and tungstencarbide. As a substitute for tantalum carbide, niobium carbide widely used in carbide additives and cermet.

Classification:

Molecular weight: 104.92

Carbon content: 11.45%

Density: 7.82g/cm3

Melting point: 3490°C

Boiling point: 4300°C

Niobium carbide is a refractory compound which appears as gray brown powder, with the molecular weight of 104 92, theoretical content of combined-carbon of 13.344% density of 7.82g/cm3, melting point at 2500°C and boiling point at 4300°C. It is insoluble in cold and hot hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and nitrate (except mixture of hot hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid). With a good chemical stability, niobium carbide is stable at temperature between 1000 and 1100°C; however, it is easily oxidized to niobium pentoxide at temperature above 1100°C. Niobium carbide is easily to be solid soluted in compounds like titanium carbide, zirconium carbide and tungstencarbide. As a substitute for tantalum carbide, niobium carbide widely used in carbide additives and cermet.
